![]() 2007 Baker Lane Estate Vineyard Syrah, Sonoma Coast From a vineyard at the southern edge of Sebastopol planted in 2003, this wine's dynamic scent is apparent from the moment it's poured. It's a matrix of game, green and black peppercorns and something like the needles of spruce, with a gentle nap in one direction and sharp prickles in the other. That green element keeps the focus on spice-it's not weighed down with jammy fruit - and air breathes more complexity into the spice, enough to cut the meatiness of the wine as it will rare prime rib. ![]() 2006 Baker Lane Hurst Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast The 2006 vintage… confirms for me that Baker Lane is on the path to being another coveted producer of excellent Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs. -- Alder Yarrow, vinography.com
2007 Baker Lane Hurst Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 2007 Baker Lane Ramondo Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast The high-toned ripe raspberry and wild berry fruit has a wild, racy side, and this grows on you. The focus is tight, and the finish keeps repeating the rich berry themes. Drink now through 2012. 390 cases made. Wine Spectator, Jul 31, 07 ![]() 2006 Baker Lane Hurst Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast ($40) Made by Quivira winemaker Steven Canter for restaurateur Stephen Singer, this effort meshes a richer, high-extract style with Sonoma Coast's typical high-toned vibrancy. Cola, bright mineral, fennel seed, juicy cherry, taut rhubarb and an emergent bit of warm oak - it all comes together in an impressive, high-toned wine that cries out for food. ![]() 2004 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast Restaurateur and olive oil importer Stephen Singer decided a few years back that his next challenge was making top-notch Pinot Noir. This first vintage from Baker Lane suggests that he succeeded: It's cool-climate structure supports laser focused dark cherry flavors that last. Food and Wine, Mar 07 ![]() 2004 Baker Lane Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast A beautiful Pinot Noir from former San Francisco wine retailer Stephen Singer. Made from grapes from the Hurst Family Twin Hill Ranch on the Sonoma Coast, this first vintage is supple and bright, with scents of earth and cassis, and a taste of dark juicy berries. What stands out most, though, is its harmony. A wine to drink with just about everything, but with a particular affinity for birds - roast duck or squab, braised duck legs - slow simmered stews and baby lamb chops.
